Several researches have been conducted that have highlighted the dire need for better palliative care in acute hospital settings due to the severity of the patient's condition (Richards, Ingleton, and Gott, 2012; Gott et al., 2013). Moreover, access to high-quality palliative care has come to be an increased concern in the public health policy of the UK whereas policymakers have highlighted the importance of palliative care in hospital settings (Vanbutsele et al., 2018). It is because the majority of deaths in the UK have occurred in acute hospitals and the number of expected to increase in coming years (Richards, Ingleton, and Gott, 2012). This assignment is based on a systematic literature search were two studies, one qualitative and one quantitative, have been chosen for analysing palliative care in critical/acute hospital settings in the UK. Hence, a systematic search has been conducted using appropriate databases such as CINAHL, PubMed, and ProQuest. Both the researches have been analysed by using Holland and Rees (2010) critiquing framework. Their limitations, contributions as well as strengths have been discussed in the assignment.

Infection-control Practices after Chemotherapy Treatment

Infections can lead to a serious complication for the patients undergoing cancer treatment plans with its extensive consequence of neutropenia, moreover, they are the most common cause of death that can be prevented (Thom et al., 2013). Preventions related to the infection are dependent on the treatment of neutropenia or different immunological deficiencies (immunoglobulins administration, colony-stimulating factors, and reduced-dose chemotherapy patterns), infection control (control and infection prevention processes), pre-emptive antimicrobials and prophylaxis (antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial) (Chopra et al., 2010). Measures for infection-control which are formulated to avoid the transfer of infectious pathogens to the patients from environmental, human or any other sources are appeared to be least combative (Eskander et al., 2013).

Representation of Muslims by the Media

Media is regarded as a key source of information across the globe. Where it brings numerous benefits, one can not ignore the threats it poses to society in general.  Biased representation of religious minorities by various media platforms not only shapes the perception of the society but also adversely impacts the members of the targeted population. Although discrimination of the religious minorities is a widely explored phenomenon, the stereotyping of the Muslim community and Islamophobia are majorly the source of concern for researchers.

An Essay Arguing That Advanced Directives Should Be Taken Into Account

Advance Directives are the that tools enable informed adult patients to demand a certain plan of action regarding their treatment in case they lose the medical decision-making ability. One question concerning the usage of the advance directions is the case where a person who is going through some psychological change is regarded as a distinct entity from the one who signed the directive. If that is so, then the authority of the directive – which is supposed to be limited to the person who has completed it and not to his new identity – is right to be questioned. This is known as the dilemma of being someone else (Nys, 2013).

Prophylactic Administration Of Pre-Hospital Antibiotics

Open fractures are characterized as a condition when a fragment of bone perforates the skin and becomes indirect with the external environment, usually as a consequence of high-energy traumatic injury (Zalavras et al., 2008). Open fractures of the limbs, especially the lower extremity, are grave orthopedic injuries that pose a high risk of infection and non-union (Atwan et al., 2020). Treatment of such injuries requires compliance to Advanced Trauma Life Support guidelines, which mandates the administration of antibiotics soon after sterilizing the wound. As an initial treatment of open fracture of extremities, almost all the high-income countries resort to using antibiotics who perceive that their benefits outweigh their potential risks.
