Final Viva Guidelines
Section 1 – Common Mistakes in Final Presentation File
- Make sure you are following the presentation template properly.
You can use any style/formatting that is readable/viewable easily.
Sequence should be exactly the same as in the template provided on helping material page: http://vulms.vu.edu.pk/Courses/CS619/Downloads/HelpingMaterialNew.htm
- Zoom in the slide (by pressing F5 Key from keyboard).
Go back 5 to 7 steps from your computer screen.
Try to read text from each slide especially from slides having diagrams.
You will realize that you need to Zoom some of the diagrams to make them more readable. For this purpose you can do any one of the following:
- Increase the text size or diagrams’ overall size.
- Split a single diagram in 2 or 3 slides.
- Use zoom effects in power point animation options.
Section 2 – Common Mistakes in Presentation Session
- The general presentation session break down is as under:
- First 5-10 minutes for the application demonstration/running.
- Next 5 minutes for the presentation (from Presentation file).
- Next 5 minutes for the viva voce (academic questions).
This will mainly focus on the intermediate to advanced level knowledge for following courses CS101, CS201, CS403, CS504, CS605, CS304, CS601 etc.
You may be asked to declare your favorite course from Computer Science domain. Questions could be a bit more advanced.
In any case viva panel will be free to ask questions from any course you have studied in your study program.
- You should be in decent/formal attire according to the weather conditions. Flamboyant/Casual appearance is not recommended.
- You should rehearse the presentation many times to get enough confidence for the presentation and viva voce session.
In case of two members in a group, both the members should have equal or at least similar command over presentation.
- During the whole session, don’t get yourself in a dispute with any viva panel member.
Be nice during whole session.
You are free to express your point of view but don’t indulge yourself into prolong discussion to prove your point.
- You must have full understanding of the software application you are demonstrating. Make sure that:
- The application is complete to address the fundamental requirements of the project.
- The input validation checks are implemented.
- There are no unhandled exceptions, this is very crucial; a system generated exception puts bad impression during demonstration.

- Students face issues during viva exam to show the mobile device screen.
- To overcome this issue, some applications are available using which you can view the mobile phone screen on PC.
- Following are the websites; you can test all, and choose best on your own.

- This way it will be easy during viva voce examination, if some student wants to show the demo from mobile as well.
Section 4 – Important Points for Viva Vioce Examination
- It is observed that students don’t really care about the information from announcements page and related to viva voce examination.
In start of every session, all the required/important details are published on a particular announcements page and its direct link is sent to students via email.
So you must know every thing related to viva voce examination through the related announcements link sent to you before start of viva voce examination.
- Some students miss the important things to bring to viva voce examination center.
Again ignoring the information from the viva related announcement is the root cause for such issues.
You must bring all the things mentioned on viva related announcement to avoid any problem.
- Keep checking the viva related announcements page and your mailboxes on daily basis, so that you can get latest update (if any).
- Be patient to get response for your emails.
During viva voce examination, project supervisors are mostly busy in viva voce examination, and thus cannot reply the emails in the normal time.
Wait for 3 to 5 working days after sending email.
In case you don’t get reply, send the email again or contact respective project supervisor via Skype or phone.
- You should check your email on daily basis near to your scheduled date, so that you don’t miss any sudden/latest update regarding viva voce examination.
- In Final Report, you can skip/remove the headings or portions that are not relevant to your project.
- Students should learn how to use Windows zoom/magnifier features as some times it is needed to get a clear visual during viva exam session.
Also learn the Zoom/Font Size increased, features for source code/IDEs.
